Shell Busey with his 46lb Halibut (current LBC Halibut Season Record holder) & Ken Mueller with his 36lb “Tyee” Chinook salmon caught on July 14. It's been a season of incredible fishing on the West Coast of Vancouver Island! Through June and July, our guests saw solid catch rates of 12 – 20lb Chinook and above average size Coho salmon caught near our rocky coastline. Guests Shell Busey of HouseSmart fame and buddy Ken Mueller broke both the Halibut and Chinook season weight records in one day.

Early Season Fishing's Off to a Great Start! Brian and late-May chinook

The solid salmon run forecasts for this season are proving right on. Brian McGrath, a seasoned angler from Scotland, can attest to this. Within the first four hours of his May salmon and halibut charter with Long Beach Charters, Brian had over 20 bites. While Brian & Mike fought double-header Chinook, a humpback whale surfaced next to the boat to check out the action. We're seeing an average of 40 bites per trip without having to venture too far off shore. Guests have been enjoying checking our crab traps for Dungeness Crab on the trip home – grilled on the BBQ, fresh West Coast crab make a perfect finish to a great fishing day.

August offers solid fishing on the West Coast!

August fishing didn't disappoint. From solid catch rates of Chinook, Coho, Lingcod and Halibut to diverse weather and conditions, and great times out on the water, August was a busy time at Long Beach Charters! LBC Guides Mike, Bob & Trent, and their guests, fished a lot of different areas this month depending on where the fish were and where the best spots were to benefit from the weather conditions – from near the rocks at Little Beach to the calm waters of the Deer Group Islands to the classic Halibut grounds at the Big Bank.
